Announcing: Fair Isle Knitting with Dr. Jennifer Daley "Knitting Jenny"
Saturday, March 1, 2025 10:30 am-4:30 pm cost $78
15% discount on supplies purchased at The Wool Market & DIY School

RESERVATIONS REQUIRED!

Learn to knit colorful wool projects inspired by Fair Isle of the Shetland Islands, Scotland. Prior to class, each student must purchase one Fair Isle knitting pattern from the instructor’s website www.knittingjenny.com. During class, we will discuss the knitting pattern that each student selected, how the patterns differ, and the many options to use the pattern to create your own design and color preferences. We will learn how to take your hat pattern, for example, and create the exact hat shape or headband you prefer. We will knit during class, so please read your knitting pattern before class, to ensure you’re bringing to class the necessary tools, needles, and yarn specified in the knitting pattern. If you have any questions before class begins, please email the instructor at jenny@knittingjenny.com.

There will be a break from 12:00 to 1:00pm. Bring your own lunch to enjoy at the shop, or take a stroll in historic downtown Hutchinson where there are several nice eateries.

The instructor, Dr. Jennifer Daley, is a university professor, textile historian, and knitwear designer. She lived in Fair Isle (in the Shetland Islands, Scotland), the historic birthplace of Fair Isle knitting, and the most remote inhabited island in the United Kingdom. Jennifer will teach you how to knit Fair Isle, all the tips and tricks, and she will also share the history of Fair Isle knitting. In April 2022, she moved to the Shetland Islands, Scotland, to continue her research into the history of Shetland wool and Fair Isle knitting. In the Shetland capital of Lerwick, Jennifer managed the day-to-day operations of the Shetland Textile Museum, where she also researched the history of the Shetland knitting industry, handknitting techniques, and tools specific to Shetland. Jennifer now resides in Salina, Kansas.
